To enable write protect on a usb which does not have write-protect feature follow these steps.
1. Open the Registry Editor (Open the “Run” dialog box, type regedit and hit “Enter”).
2. Navigate to the following Registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\
3. Now right-click on Control, and click on New>Key

4.Now rename this new key to StorageDevicePolicies..

5 Now right-click on StorageDevicePolicies and create a New>DWORD (32-bit) Value
![[IMG]](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjim2OU0z9eQmg5U2jpAyGC0eoA5ah7pJ7wOIemUtNi7-aOPw78crsx6VJ660BY9x3Pd6Eey65pwjTyEkRHmYsSmFBpizudbAR_MS9zQB-lk1808gol4LByr6uTK4VsVSbftqfbW0bfocc/s1600/abhi.png)
6 Now rename this value to WriteProtect
![[IMG]](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9rviA55nCKLysqU0SczZ-Qk-bsKAeVVqWkOOFjN18XgYgWSHUHTH4XyuNRNjnoyhmzT1w8Zh40wnd_ZFIbj5wS0wq11aWVbEozB2eAogqGFP9coqs5POGd2F7ZcCFoPkTzo-yx83mqvY/s1600/abi2.png)
7 Double-click on WriteProtect and set the Value data to 1.
![[IMG]](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjipZ3hT5U2pbvLQLYoz24XLpw4USaYL10khHMB2bLdMrZmlLM88g-z54_90OU1MLXBGdAtkQYD00HlZ8kcE3Fjf2IosOWx3c8qiDZK87pJInce8NMiecx1detkIKgcXbvnKzauNiRtKrA/s1600/3.png)
Now the right-protection for USB drives is enabled on your computer (no restart required) and thus it would not be possible for anyone or any program to add/delete the contents from your USB flash drive. Any attempt to copy or download the files onto the USB drive will result in the following error message being displayed.
USB-Write Protect Error
![[IMG]](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq5yKFUHKMNH8P23IC7QJZcpBaB2leyS89truVp0MPyBcXRSh2NWGxQuAnpRj3fbdpjPkoPvGUpUcXeyxF3KwHdmixr3mcurJMHAqJEDVjIVS2pmWqJuQPAymLfeNruRzYRMl1Q6T0r18/s1600/protected.png)
To revert and remove the write-protection, all you need to do is just change the value data for write-protect (Step-5) from 1 back to 0. Now write access to all the USB devices is re-enabled.
